Since 1957, United Way of Southern Nevada has attracted people with the desire to make our community a better place. Today, individuals and companies alike share their energy and resources so that our children, families, seniors, and others in need can receive assistance and lead fulfilling, productive lives.

In 2008, United Way laid the groundwork for its Community-based Agenda and created opportunities for people to attain the building blocks needed for a good life: Education, Income, Health and Immediate Needs. Everyone deserves a good life: a quality education that leads to a stable job, income that can support a family through retirement and good health.

By collaborating with long-standing, community based organizations and non-traditional partners United Way is facilitating real change in community conditions while ensuring that basic needs are met in southern Nevada.

Now more than ever, we are dedicated to delivering real results. It’s a measurable and sustainable approach designed to create lasting change for our community—and prevent problems from happening in the first place.

Because of you in 2009 United Way, in collaboration with local partners, accomplished the following:

  • More than 3,000 people with immediate needs received energy, fuel, food, housing and employment information during local Community Resource Fairs.
  • Nearly 180,000 individuals connected to essential services by dialing 2-1-1.
  • More than 4,000 individuals and families received free tax preparation in 2009 and more than 1,000 individuals received an Earned Income Tax Credit.
  • More than 15,000 children received free immunizations through a community wide partnership.
  • More than 15,000 immunization records of children were captured in a statewide database.
  • More than 6,700 children learned the basics of money management during "Teach a Child to Save Day."
  • More than 1,300 underprivileged students, ages three to five, received individualized educational assessments.
  • More than 500 parents of children, ages three to five, attended educational workshops to develop an at-home plan to increase learning capabilities.

Because of generous contributions and countless volunteer hours, United Way goes beyond quick fixes by actively working with community partners to change community conditions and improve lives. Together, we are achieving the kind of positive outcomes that no one can accomplish alone.
