United Way of Southern Nevada’s Women’s Leadership Council Holds Influential Membership Event

The Women’s Leadership Council, an elite membership program benefitting United Way of Southern Nevada, held a “Breakfast at Tiffany” event on Oct. 7 at the Tiffany & Co. store inside the Forum Shops at Caesars Palace. More than 70 local influential women were in attendance, and the event raised awareness for United Way’s Community-based Agenda designed to promote lasting change.

“United Way is thrilled to have worked with Tiffany & Co. on this event to assist our Women’s Leadership Council in addressing local needs in our community.” said Beth Miller, vice president of major gifts. “As a result of this event, our membership increased to 50, and with that great number behind us, we are confident that the WLC will band together to make a difference in our community.”

Those in attendance enjoyed an exclusive breakfast coupled with the unveiling of “The Icons of Tiffany,” a Tiffany & Co. collection. Event attendees purchased special pearls for $50 each in recognition of United Way of Southern Nevada’s 50 years of improving local lives. The proceeds went directly to meet the needs of our community in the areas of education, income and health.

“It was a great pleasure to see so many new faces at this membership cultivation event,” said Cathy Jones, co-chair of the Women’s Leadership Council. “We are confident that we will reach our goal of 100 members in 2009 and the support of those members will allow the Women’s Leadership Council to continue positive, lasting change in the areas of health, education and financial stability.”

On Tuesday, February 24, 2009, the Women’s Leadership Council will host its inaugural Women’s Leadership Luncheon, at Caesars Palace Las Vegas. Marilyn Winn, president of Bally’s, Rio and Paris Las Vegas will be the featured keynote speaker.

The vision of the Women’s Leadership Council is to strengthen the social landscape by engaging women leaders to inspire others in taking action, creating long-lasting change in the community through early education, access to health care and financial stability. The intent is to bring local philanthropic women to the front line to address the community’s most pressing needs. Members of the Women’s Leadership Council have committed an annual, individual investment of $2,500 or more to United Way of Southern Nevada, and enjoy benefits such as participation in meaningful leadership and educational activities, hands-on volunteer involvement, favorable tax benefits, and visible recognition as a woman leader.
