United Way’s Women’s Leadership Council Holds Membership Breakfast
Cathy Jones, Women's Leadership Council (WLC) Co-Chair; Beth Miller, Vice President, Major Gifts; Jane Greenspun Gale, Springs Preserve Founding Member; Lawrel Larsen, WLC Outreach Co-Chair; Manya Goulet, WLC Outreach Co-Chair.

Featuring guest speaker Jane Greenspun Gale (Founding Board Member, Springs Preserve), the event was attended by more than 100 WLC members and business leaders, and illustrated the importance of maintaining an environmentally-friendly and socially productive lifestyle. As part of the event’s activities, 20 functional table “centerpieces” consisting of science and exploration tools were donated to United Way partner preschools and early childhood development centers for science curriculum enrichment. The gift is one step towards closing the educational gap for underprivileged students and aligns with United Way’s mission to initiate lasting change in education, with particular emphasis on early education.
“We are always looking to plan creative and beneficial events that serve both the needs of our members and the needs of our community,” stated Cathy Jones, co-chair of United Way’s Women’s Leadership Council. “This breakfast leads us down the path of promoting educational success for Southern Nevada’s youth, while providing an enriching and enlightening networking experience for our community’s top female professional and philanthropic leaders.”
As a benefit to its many members, the Women’s Leadership Council continually organizes meaningful social and educational activities that align with the mission of United Way. Most recently during its Spring Suit Drive, the group collected more than 2,000 women’s suits and professional clothing and donated them to local women’s shelters and Goodwill Career Connections to benefit women in need.
Now boasting a membership of 105, the group has more than tripled during the past year, with a combined contribution that has exceeded $400,000 since its inception in November 2007.
