United Way of Southern Nevada President and CEO Kyle B. Rahn and our Community Impact Program Manager David Perez had the honor of attending Immunize Nevada’s Big Shots Breakfast, an award ceremony celebrating immunization champions across Nevada. Read David’s blog below to learn more about the nomination and event.
Each December, Immunize Nevada celebrates the accomplishments of their coalition and recognizes the immunization heroes and influencers among us. As part of National Influenza Vaccination Week (NIVW), Immunize Nevada recognizes everyday heroes across Nevada in three categories: Outstanding Clinician, Community Partner, and Champion, along with our Outstanding Volunteers.
This year, UWSN was nominated as an Outstanding Community Partner for Southern Nevada at the Big Shots Breakfast. We were up against some tough competition, such as Dignity Health and the REACH Project at the Southern Nevada Health District. I’m excited to share that UWSN was announced as the winner for the Outstanding Community Partner category! These are the kind words the nominee shared about United Way of Southern Nevada and the work our team has been doing in Southern Nevada during the pandemic:
“The United Way of Southern Nevada team has been so gracious to the community and nonprofits during this pandemic. Especially with many people setting up flu clinics and services for the community outdoors, UWSN has provided free reusable face coverings, disposable face coverings, and hand sanitizer that we were able to use to help protect our staff, volunteers, and vaccinators, and the community members attending the clinics. UWSN has been such a great community partner in connecting nonprofits with the resources they need to operate successfully for the community. Congratulations for being an Outstanding Community Partner!”
You can read more about our nomination and the other nominees here. This is an excellent example of how UWSN’s impact has incredible reach! Our team got to share this moment with Governor Steve Sisolak, statewide immunization champions, elected officials, and community partners that we work with and assist every day!
The Immunize Nevada team is getting ready to take on the largest vaccination effort seen in Nevada, along with the rest of the country. They left us with a few messages on how our community can support their efforts.
1. Get a Flu Shot. Find flu vaccines available in your area here.
2. Share medically sound science-based information with our loved ones and community when discussing vaccines and health topics.
