A self-proclaimed bookworm who has a minor obsession with Seattle sports teams, Riley Caspersen came to Las Vegas during high school from the state of Washington and never looked back. She serves as United Way’s Marketing Coordinator and works to promote the incredible support that United Way provides to the community. She has a passion for creating entertaining, inspirational content to engage potential donors and volunteers in United Way’s mission. Her favorite part of the position is how her work can help make such great change.
“Every little thing you do can have a big effect on someone else’s life,” said Riley. “Working at United Way is amazing because you see firsthand what your hard work is doing in the community, so it inspires me to give 110% every day.”
After getting a taste of the Las Vegas sunshine, Riley decided to stick with the warm weather and went to the University of Arizona to study English literature. While she was the social media coordinator for the dining services department at Arizona, she found her future calling. “It was my introduction to the world of marketing and the exact time I realized I wanted to do it for a living,” she says.
As United Way’s Marketing Coordinator, Riley develops social media content, along with updating the website, writing newsletter articles and helping with marketing projects. “No two days are the same, and I think that’s the best part. The field and projects are constantly changing, and I love coming in every day and seeing what new thing I get to accomplish!”
As an English graduate, most of her free time is dedicated to reading. Riley’s favorite way to find new books to read is wandering the aisles at a bookstore or library and picking up whatever looks interesting. Her love of books contributed to her dream of travelling in Europe and seeing some of the places she read about in her literature classes. What time she doesn’t spend reading is spent watching sports. Born in Federal Way, Washington, a suburb of Seattle, she is a fan of Seattle sports teams like the Seahawks, Mariners, and Sounders. Of course, as an Arizona graduate, she also watches the Wildcats basketball team religiously.
During the spring, Riley loves to enjoy meals made with fresh produce. She thinks that recipes taste best with fresh herbs and vegetables, like this Pasta Caprese. “My dad is a retired chef, so I was spoiled with great food,” said Riley. Because of this, Riley doesn’t have a favorite restaurant, since her father set such a high standard for good cooking. She does have a favorite movie, Pitch Perfect, and loves to listen to country artists like The Band Perry, Miranda Lambert and Sam Hunt. Her other favorites on her playlist are Broadway musicals, which she says stems from being in choir and theater in high school.
