Celebrating its tenth year of impacting the community, United Way of Southern Nevada’s Women’s Leadership Council’s (WLC) Annual “Women’s Fall Suit Drive” on Friday, November 3 was a complete success with an incredible 10,446 professional items collected and a record 1,694 outfits created.
WLC collected new and gently-used, clean professional attire including suits, dresses, pants and tops on hangers and jewelry, shoes, belts, scarves and handbags to assist women in need. The drive helps women prepare for career opportunities and gain confidence to succeed during an interview and in the workplace. In celebration of United Way of Southern Nevada’s 60th anniversary, more than 60 volunteers came together to sort items and create outfits for recipients.
Donations will help women through agencies with back to work programs including Catholic Charities, Goodwill Career Connections, S.A.F.E. House, SafeNest, The Shade Tree, Southern Nevada Regional Housing Authority ROSS Program, Women’s Development Center, Work Opportunities Readiness Center of HELP of Southern Nevada.
“We are investing over 540,000 in the community this year to change lives and help families break the cycle of poverty.” said Monte Smith, WLC Co-Chair. “Our Suit Drive is an incredible example of how our members rally the support of the entire community to create change and possibilities for those who need it most.”
