After a thorough search process, United Way of Southern Nevada’s (UWSN) Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of Scott Emerson as their President & CEO. Scott will officially assume this role on February 1, 2018.
“Scott embodies community. His strategic vision and leadership experience will be instrumental in guiding United Way,” said Ed Garcia, UWSN Board Chair. “He will lead the organization forward as we continue to support children from cradle to career and strengthen families as they work to build pathways out of poverty.”
Scott has served 31 years with the American Red Cross, the first 12 as a volunteer. His roles have included leading and modernizing the Southern Nevada Chapter of the American Red Cross. Scott has proven himself as a dedicated leader, growing resources and developing strategic partnerships to improve local services for our community.
With a focus on innovation and collective impact, Scott will collaborate with UWSN supporters and actively engage the community to create measurable impact through United Way’s Community-Based Agenda, a roadmap to improving lives through early education, high school achievement, post-secondary attainment and workforce supports. Using information from United Way’s recently-launched information hub, Community Connect, Scott will also lead the organization’s efforts to fund community work using data and research, both of which are critical to solving Southern Nevada’s greatest challenges.
“United Way of Southern Nevada has established itself as an organization on the forefront of community change, using their considerable reach to identify the root causes of issues like poverty and develop plans to solve them,” said Scott. “I am thrilled to join the UWSN team to lead and collaborate with other organizations and create even greater change for our community.”
