As our community begins the road to recovery, many Southern Nevadans will need support as they search for new jobs and return to the workforce. Through United Way of Southern Nevada’s (UWSN) partnership with Foundation for an Independent Tomorrow (FIT), we help local parents like Selena discover a new career path and have hope for a brighter future.

At 24 years old, Selena had given birth to her first child and decided that she needed to pursue a new career path to provide for her family. Before connecting with our partners at FIT, Selena had only worked minimum wage jobs and had no prior professional training. She couldn’t afford a college education and felt her job options were limited.

Through the support of UWSN and FIT, Selena was able to work with a case manager to enroll in vocational training to become a Clinical Medical Assistant. The coursework was challenging, but through Selena’s resilience and dedication to providing for her family, she graduated with her certification. Selena now works at a local fertility clinic and provides compassionate care to women in our community.

By investing in local workforce development and training programs, United Way of Southern Nevada is helping local parents get back to work and creating equitable access to education. Together, we can build pathways to success for every Southern Nevadan and rebuild our community.
