Seventh grader Jayden comes to after-school tutoring at the library at least three times a week. With UWSN's support he now works with a CCSD teacher on homework and studying for classes. His math skills have improved so much that he has advanced to the next grade level in his math classes. Through your support, 2,089 students received free after-school tutoring through the Las Vegas Clark County Library District Foundation.
When Christian started pre-kindergarten, he had to be put on an individual education plan due to a developmental delay. Through UWSN, teachers in Christian's classroom receive training on how to evaluate and address delays in their students and with the help of these teachers, Christian now has the skills he needs to continue on to kindergarten. Through your support, 1,257 children like Christian received early education scholarships in 2018-19.
As a high school junior, Jorge thought college was completely out of the question. He qualified for free and reduced lunch, barely managed to pass his classes, and didn’t care about school. All that changed when he met Erica Mosca, founder and executive director of Leaders in Training, a United Way funded partner.
United Way of Southern Nevada’s Women’s Leadership Council’s (WLC) 8th Annual “Women’s Fall Suit Drive” on Friday, November 6 was a complete success with an incredible 12,273 professional items collected at the NV Energy parking lot.
Donations will benefit United Way accredited agencies with back to work programs for women. The agencies include Catholic Charities, Goodwill Career Connections, S.A.F.E. House, SafeNest, The Shade Tree, Women’s Development Center and Work Opportunities Readiness Center of HELP of Southern Nevada.
