United for 60: Boys and Girls Clubs of Southern Nevada

United Way of Southern Nevada and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Nevada (BGCSNV) have had a long standing relationship. From volunteer engagement to raising funds, United Way has helped to create a more unified community. United Way’s employee giving campaign and direct program funding has provided BGCSNV with over $3.8 million which in turn, deepens our mission impact.

Most recently BGCSNV has received $75,000 from United Way of Southern Nevada’s Women Leadership Council to support the Kids Impacted by Data (KID) program. KID is designed to improve the reading and math scores of the BGCSNV youth. This program achieves its goal by placing teachers or adults in education into Clubhouses to work with children using targeted intervention techniques. The smaller ratio of children to adults allows for greater individualized attention during homework and instruction time. Children also have individualized curriculum through tablet programs that instruct and track their growth in math and reading.  Utilizing these online tools to engage children has enabled the educators to work with smaller groups of children. To measure improvement in reading and math scores, BGCSNV has partnered with CCSD.  The school district will provide quarterly updates of reading and math scores and homework completion rates.  This funding provides for the implementation of the KID program for 70 children at the Downtown Clubhouse with the goal to improve K-3rd-grade math and reading skills by 25% quarterly, and 4th – 7th grade by 15% quarterly.

BGCSNV staff and youth would like to share our gratitude with United Way of Southern Nevada. We look forward to continuing our partnership and creating a stronger community in Southern Nevada.
