United Way Announces Funding Recipients to Increase Quality Early Education in Southern Nevada

United Way is positively affecting the lives of our children through $8.2 million in early education scholarships

The United Way of Southern Nevada has selected 19 early education centers with over 68 classrooms, including CCSD to receive funding for free and reduced tuition scholarships for three and four-year-old children in need. A total amount of $8,200,000 in funding provides child care centers with resources aiding in early childhood education. Nevada has nearly the lowest rates of preschool enrollment in the United States. Only 32% of 3 and 4 year olds in Clark County are enrolled in a full-day pre-kindergarten program. The Nevada Department of Education and United Way are bridging the education gap of early childhood education by offering scholarships and investment funds to child care centers.

“We will work with early education centers to grow programming from an “informal' model to an 'education' model as a lot of education can happen through structured play,” said Scott Emerson, United Way’s President and CEO. “Our goal is to increase the number of 3- and 4-year olds attending pre-kindergarten programs and provide pre-k teachers with training and resources for their classrooms and students.”

The below early education centers have been selected to receive funding to provide scholarships for preschool and pre-k enrollment in Nevada:
