Join us and celebrate our Marketing Intern, Valarie Lopez! Valarie is a senior at Colorado State University pursuing a degree in Business with a concentration in Marketing and a minor in Communications. Valarie joined Team UWSN to learn how nonprofit marketing can make an impact in our community. Valarie shared, “I choose UWSN because I wanted to give back to the community I grew up in.” Learn more about Valarie and her United Way of Southern Nevada internship experience below.
Why did you decide to join the United Way of Southern Nevada Team?
“During the COVID-19 pandemic, many southern Nevadans needed support to stay in their homes and keep food on their tables. I was deeply moved by United Way’s ability to help so many of our community members. I wanted to be a part of an organization dedicated to the city that I grew up in. I also wanted to learn more about marketing in the nonprofit sector.”
Can you share more about your role as a Marketing intern?
“I work directly with the marketing team to promote our partner’s programs and events. In the office, you can usually find me creating social media content, capturing photos at events, writing blog stories, and being an overall UWSN cheerleader.”
What do you enjoy most about your internship at UWSN so far?
“Although all parts of my internship experience have been amazing, my favorite part is our weekly all-staff meetings. It is so inspiring and energizing to hear about all the hard work that the UWSN staff is doing to ensure that our Southern Nevadan communities are getting the support they need to succeed.”
What is your favorite activity to do in Las Vegas?
"I love exploring in Downtown Las Vegas. There is a ton of cute record shops, bookstores, and small boutiques that directly support Las Vegas locals."
