New Volunteer Website Connects Over 400 Volunteers to Help Those Who Need it Most

United Way of Southern Nevada is proud to announce the launch of Volunteer Connect, its new volunteer website at volunteer.uwsn.org. The volunteer platform has already engaged hundreds of volunteers to assist with vital services for those who are most deeply affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The need for help is huge and growing by the day. We are recruiting volunteers who are helping our most vulnerable get through these difficult times,” said Kyle B. Rahn, United Way of Southern Nevada President and CEO. “As local nonprofits cope with the loss of resources and funding, volunteers play a vital and important role in helping these services continue.”

With a simple and easy signup process, there are currently 50 nonprofit organizations registered on Volunteer Connect. In addition to virtual volunteer opportunities, volunteers can deliver food and organize supply donation opportunities.

“Many of our partners are in desperate need of paper goods, personal protective equipment, shelf-stable foods, and diapers,” said Savanna Sibley, United Way of Southern Nevada Volunteer Manager. “Without the help of volunteers, many people in our community who are just in need of a volunteer voice on the other end of the phone would go without food and essential supplies.”

Since the launch of this platform, UWSN has deployed over 400 volunteers across the valley to complete projects such as meal, grocery, and supply delivery to seniors and telephone screening of patients of the COVID-19 Patient Support Center.

UWSN invites volunteers to get involved and make a difference, and asks Southern Nevada nonprofits to sign up today at volunteer.uwsn.org. To ensure that UWSN can continue to provide critical support, give today at uwsn.org/donate. For more information, please email LaurieM@uwsn.org

About the UWSN Emergency Assistance and Community Needs Fund (UWSN Fund)

With over 30 years of experience in distributing emergency funding, help will be available through United Way of Southern Nevada’s trusted partners who are experienced in providing direct service assistance. To ensure accountability of the distribution of funds, UWSN is following the same stringent guidelines it utilizes for the administration of Emergency Food and Shelter Program (EFSP) funds through Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). To ensure all donated funds are distributed to needs resulting from the COVID-19 virus and this state of emergency, Bank of America is covering all of their administrative fees and underwriting expenses related to the Emergency Assistance and Community Needs Fund account so that 100% of the donations go to local needs. Also supported by NV Energy and the Wells Fargo Foundation, United Way of Southern Nevada launched the UWSN Fund to assist those impacted by COVID-19. To donate, visit uwsn.org/donate or text “UWSNFUND” to 313131.
